ec·lec·tic
əˈklektik/
- deriving ideas, style, or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources.
I love eclectic decor...especially in dining spaces. It creates interest...more of a mix not match approach. It also tends to tell a story, giving you a peek into the home owners personal style and taste as well as an intimacy. Add in some jewel tones or bright punches of color and these interiors feel fresh, fun and ready for entertaining.
The beauty of eclectic decor is that it feels curated, and designed over time...which I love. For someone designing a home themselves..this is a safe decorating style. I have always believed that if you love it you can make it work. There is no right or wrong if you will, if you keep the color scheme cohesive...you can easily blend and meld a variety of styles and periods. I also believe that
for anyone on a tight budget you can have a fabulous home without breaking the bank!
For years I have designed clients homes with this approach. The key is sourcing from a variety of places. Your local big box decorating stores, small boutiques ( my personal favorite), antique shops,
Ebay, newer sites like Chairish as well as catalogs and smaller online shops are all great sources for gorgeous things. Painting, reupholstering and freshening a piece can take it from down right Frumpy to Fabulous.
